Virginia Tech has lost linebacker Ronny Vandyke and running back Tony Gregory for the season to injuries.

Hokies trainer Mike Goforth says Vandyke needs right shoulder surgery and will miss six to eight months, and Gregory has re-torn the ACL in his right knee.

Goforth also says starting right tackle Mark Shuman will have surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee and miss from four to six weeks. Shuman has had arthroscopic surgery on the same knee before. The surgery will likely be done next week.

Goforth also says tailback J.C. Coleman has a high left ankle sprain and a right ankle sprain and will likely be sidelined about two weeks.

He thinks Coleman will be ready for the Hokies' season-opener against Alabama on Aug. 31
