Virginia coach Mike London names redshirt sophomore David Watford the Cavaliers' starting QB

David Watford will be Virginia's starting quarterback.

Coach Mike London made the announcement Monday on a teleconference. He says he called Watford and Greyson Lambert in Sunday night and told them that Watford would be the starter.

Watford played sparingly as a true freshman two seasons ago and redshirted last year. He was listed as the Cavaliers' No. 1 quarterback after spring practice, and London pledged to name his starter early in preseason camp to prevent a revolving door situation like Virginia experienced last season.

Watford is viewed as a duel-threat, and Lambert is a classic drop-back passer.

Michael Rocco and Phillip Sims shared the job for the Cavaliers last season, but Rocco transferred after the season and Sims was dismissed from school during the summer.
