The Cleveland Indians added veteran outfielder Johnny Damon to the roster prior to Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox.

Damon, who signed a minor league contract last month, had been preparing to play at the team's spring training facility in Arizona.

To make room, the Indians designated infielder Jose Lopez for assignment.

Damon, 38, is entering his 18th major league season. He batted .261 with 16 home runs, 29 doubles, 73 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 150 games for Tampa Bay last year -- his 16th consecutive season of at least 140 games played.
