D.C. United defender Ethan White underwent surgery for a sports hernia on both his right and left sides, the Major League Soccer club announced Thursday.

White played 24 games, including 21 starts, in his first season in MLS. White traveled to Munich, Germany for the surgery performed by hernia specialist Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck.

White was recently called-up to the U.S. Under-23 national team, where he was a teammate with current United player Perry Kitchen. White was forced to leave the training camp with an unknown knee injury, according to United, and will evaluated next week by D.C.'s medical staff.
