Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa will be sidelined three to four weeks with a knee injury, the English Premier League club announced Friday.

The 23-year-old Kagawa was injured in the Champions League match against Braga on Tuesday. He finished the first half with the problem, but was taken off at halftime. United won, 3-2.

"I think playing on with the injury did not help the situation for him, even though he did well to play on with it," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. "It's disappointing for him."

Kagawa joined United this summer from Borussia Dortmund, and has two goals and one assist in six league appearances.

United visits Chelsea on Sunday in league play, and returns to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in the League Cup.
