D.C. United acquired Colombian forward Lionard Pajoy and an international roster spot from the Philadelphia Union for midfielder Danny Cruz on Thursday.

Pajoy, 31, had five goals and two assists in 20 matches, including 16 starts, for the Union. He signed with Philadelphia earlier this season from Colombian first division side Itagui Ditaires.

"It was not an easy decision to trade Danny. He's been a terrific player on and off the field this season," said D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper. "We felt that we needed to add another piece up top and the opportunity to get Lionard Pajoy was one that we could not pass up."

Cruz, 22, joined United in January from the Houston Dynamo. He appeared in 16 games, including 12 starts, and had a goal and three assists.

Both players could debut for their new teams Sunday against their old teams as D.C. hosts Philadelphia at RFK Stadium.
