Union sign English defender Tait

Chester, PA – The Philadelphia Union announced the signing of English defender Joe Tait on Tuesday.

Tait, 21, joins Philadelphia from USL Professional Division club Dayton Dutch Lions after a three-week trial with the Union. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Middlesbrough native moved to the United States in 2010 to sign with the Baton Rouge Capitals of the USL Premier Development League and was named 2010 PDL Defender of the Year.

During his trial with the Union, Tait appeared in two MLS Reserve League matches and also scored a goal in an exhibition match against the Harrisburg City Islanders.
