New York, NY – Following its dominating victory over previously top-ranked Stanford over the weekend, Connecticut has claimed the No. 1 position in the most recent Associated Press women's college basketball top 25.
Connecticut moved up from the No. 2 spot after routing the Cardinal by a 61-35 score Saturday in Palo Alto. The Huskies received 37-of-40 first-place votes and 997 total points, with Baylor named No. 1 on three other ballots.
The Lady Bears earned 948 overall points to move up from third to second, with Duke climbing one spot to third following Stanford's loss. The Cardinal slid to fourth, one place ahead of Notre Dame.
Georgia fell from sixth to 10th after falling to Illinois on Friday, with Kentucky, California, Maryland and Penn State all vaulting one spot to occupy the No. 6 through No. 9 positions.
Louisville, Tennessee and Oklahoma State also climbed one spot to hold the 11th through 13th designations, with Purdue sliding from 11th to 14th after a 74-47 loss at Notre Dame on Saturday. North Carolina is now 15th in the poll after moving up one position as well.
The remainder of the top 20 consists of UCLA, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Florida State and Colorado, with the Buffaloes one of the week's biggest movers in going from 23rd to 20th.
Kansas, Dayton, Arkansas, Texas A&M and newcomer Nebraska round out this week's rankings, with the No. 25 Cornhuskers replacing former No. 20 Texas after the Longhorns lost twice over the weekend. Dayton fell from 15th to 22nd after being topped by Bowling Green on Sunday.
Among the highlights of this week's schedule will be Maryland traveling to North Carolina on Thursday, while No. 2 Baylor hosts Oklahoma State and Georgia and Tennessee will square off on Sunday.
