Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins has been hospitalized after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in northern England.

Police say the 32-year-old Wiggins was taken to a hospital by ambulance but his injuries are "not thought to be life-threatening."

Britain's Press Association said Wednesday that Wiggins, who also won Olympic gold in the London Games this summer, has sustained broken ribs as well as cuts and bruises in the accident in Wrightington, a town in the northern county of Lancashire.
