Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has undergone surgery to repair an Achilles injury, potentially keeping him on the sidelines until January.

Dawson last featured for Spurs in late August, and it was initially hoped he would be able to avoid a long-term absence.

However, Dawson's injury has required surgery and he will now miss more time than originally hoped.

A statement from the club read: "Michael Dawson has undergone surgery to his right Achilles tendon to assist with his recovery."

"Medical staff are pleased with his progress and he will be reviewed by the surgeon in early December, at which time a date for a return to full training will be determined."

The 27-year-old started 24 games for Spurs last season and has been capped four times by England's national team.
