Updated

Kansas and Kentucky each continued to prove themselves this past week with road wins against ranked teams, and the Jayhawks and Wildcats remained at the top of the poll.

Villanova had a tough week with a shocking home loss to UConn and then coming up short on the road against Pittsburgh. That resulted in the Wildcats falling two spots from third to fifth and also meant that Syracuse and Purdue each moved up one spot.

We're giving 'Nova the nod over Duke and Kansas State -- two other teams with four losses -- due to fact that the Wildcats have a pair of wins over Top 15 teams West Virginia (on the road) and Georgetown.

Duke's most impressive victory may have been a neutral-site rout over a Gonzaga club that is barely still in the Top 25, and Kansas State's top victory came on the road at Baylor.

Both the Orange and Purdue also went on the road and came away with impressive victories. Jim Boeheim's club got one at Georgetown, while the Boilermakers went to Columbus and returned with a win against Ohio State.

Pittsburgh, which had struggled of late, makes a huge jump seven spots all the way to No. 10 after wins at Marquette and against 'Nova.

Vanderbilt, despite the loss at home to Kentucky, also made a move to No. 17 after a road win at Ole Miss. Another team that has slowly crept up is Richmond, who now sits at 22nd overall.

Michigan State fell four spots to 18th after a home loss to Ohio State -- its fourth setback in the Spartans' last six games.

Two teams made their way into the Top 25: Missouri, which posted victories against Texas and at Nebraska; and Northern Iowa, which beat Creighton and also got past Old Dominion.

That meant a pair of teams were bumped: Wake Forest, which lost a pair this past week; and a Baylor club that suffered a setback at Oklahoma State.
