Mexico City, Mexico – Gerardo Rodriguez converted a penalty in the 70th minute as Toluca extended its unbeaten streak to nine games with a 1-1 draw against 10-man America on Sunday in the Mexican Apertura.
America went down a man in the first half, but led through Rubens Sambueza in the 66th minute. First-place Toluca answered from the spot as Rodriguez was on target to split the points.
Toluca maintained the top spot, but Tijuana moved within a point of the top as it defeated Jaguares, 2-0, on Friday. Alfredo Moreno and Duvier Riascos scored as Tijuana won for the fourth time during a five-game unbeaten streak.
Also Sunday, Luis Morales scored in the 81st minute to give Guadalajara a 1-1 draw against Puebla.
Also Saturday, Carlos Quintero scored two goals as Santos downed Tigres, 3-1, Gerardo Torrado scored in extra time as Cruz Azul tied Pachuca, 1-1, Esteban Paredes led Atlante to a 1-0 win at Queretaro, Eisner Loboa and Matias Britos scored as Leon beat San Luis, 2-0, and Monterrey tied Atlas, 1-1.
Also Friday, Emanuel Villa scored after half as UNAM won for the second time in its last three matches, 1-0, over Morelia.
