The injury comes after Young and Fisher had a row following Sunday's 19-16 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins.

Young threw his shoulder pads and jersey into the crowd after he was left on the sidelines following the injury and Fisher said he was no longer his starting quarterback.

Then came the news Monday that the injury to his throwing hand was season-ending.

"Our doctors, our medical staff, are recommending surgery to fix the flexor tendon. That would indicate that his season would be over, so in the next day or so we'll be putting him on injured reserve and he'll be finished for the year," Fisher told reporters.

Putting Young on injured reserve, at a time when the other leading quarterback Kerry Collins is currently sidelined with a calf injury, would normally be a blow to a coach but Fisher said he would have benched Young anyway.

"You're dealing in hypotheticals, but I will say this, had there not been an injury, (given) his actions after the game, he wouldn't be the starter. But we have an injury that is going to require surgery so we're going to move on," he said.

Rusty Smith will be the starting quarterback for the Titans with former Tampa Bay, Tennessee and Denver quarterback Chris Simms being brought in as the back-up.

"My focus is no longer on Vince Young; my focus is moving forward with this team. Rusty Smith will start, we will bring Chris Simms in on (Tuesday) morning. In all likelihood will be a two until Kerry (Collins) gets better. Obviously we have to get back to winning football games, so that is going to be the focus this week," he said.
