Portland, OR (SportsNetwork.com) - The Portland Timbers announced on Wednesday that the club has signed forward Gaston Fernandez to a new contract. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The 31-year-old Fernandez returns to Portland for a second season after joining the club from Estudiantes LP in Argentina prior to the start of last season.

In his initial season in MLS, Fernandez notched 12 goals and three assists across all competitions in 38 games, including seven goals in 32 league appearances.

After beginning his professional career with River Plate in Argentina, Fernandez went on to feature for Racing, San Lorenzo and Estudiantes, while he also enjoyed spells in Mexico with Monterrey and Tigres.
