DETROIT (Reuters) - Detroit Tigers slugger Delmon Young was ruled out of Game Three of their American League Championship Series against the Texas Rangers after aggravating a strained stomach muscle, the team said on Tuesday.
The loss of Young, who went 6-for-19 with three homers in Detroit's AL Division Series win over the New York Yankees, is another setback for a Tigers team trying to claw back into the ALCS after dropping the opening two games of the best-of-seven series in Texas.
Young was originally left off Detroit's ALCS roster with what was diagnosed a strained oblique muscle but the slugger was pressed back into service for Monday's game when Magglio Ordonez was diagnosed with a season-ending broken right ankle.
Leyland said he did know if the hard-hitting outfielder would be available for duty later in the series.
