Bill Haas is the defending champion and an afterthought this week at Congressional, and he understands why.

Tiger Woods is back in golf.

Haas refers to Woods as the lifeline of the PGA Tour and he was glad to see him back after more than three months because of a back injury. Ernie Els was among those who say Woods brings an energy level that golf has been missing.

Still to be determined is what kind of shape his game is in.

Woods hit into water hazards on his opening two tee shots during the pro-am round Wednesday at Congressional and rarely found the fairway until making a slight adjustment.

He plays Thursday morning with Jordan Spieth and Jason Day, and his expectations aren't very high because of the rust.
