Houston, TX – Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson has a hamstring injury, but the team is unsure how serious it is and how much time he will miss.
Head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday that the Texans want a second opinion on Johnson's injury. He didn't know if the wide receiver's right hamstring was torn or strained or injured in some other way.
Johnson was hurt during the second quarter of Sunday's 17-10 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers after catching a short pass and turning upfield. He went down without being hit and immediately grabbed the back of his right leg.
He left under his own power after being examined on the field and walked to the locker room. Later, Johnson appeared in street clothes.
Kubiak said after the game that it was difficult to lose one of the team's leaders, especially under such circumstances.
"There is going down, and then there is going down," the coach said Sunday. "The way he went down was deflating because it was like he just got shot, so that scares the heck out of you."
Johnson had four receptions for 36 yards before leaving the game and has 25 catches for 352 yards and two touchdowns in four games this season. He has scored 52 touchdowns and racked up 9,516 yards for Houston since 2003.
Texans running back Ben Tate sustained a groin injury in the first half against Pittsburgh and Kubiak said he hopes Tate will be ready by the end of the week.
The 3-1 Texans host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
