London, England – Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez revealed on Friday that captain John Terry would take no part in the team's Club World Cup campaign this month.
Terry is still recovering from a knee ligament injury he sustained in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Liverpool last month after colliding with Reds striker Luis Suarez, and the competition in Japan will come too soon for the 32-year- old.
Chelsea's first game in the tournament will come against either Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea or Monterrey of Mexico in the semifinals, with the final or third-place match coming three days later.
Benitez got better news regarding the fitness of midfielder Frank Lampard, who has recovered from a calf problem and could feature in this weekend's match with Sunderland.
