London, England – Chelsea captain John Terry has been hit with a three-match European ban after he received a red card against Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals.
The incident took place away from the ball as Terry struck Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez in the knee, earning an early exit from the contest.
Terry has already served a mandatory one-game suspension after sitting out Chelsea's win over Bayern Munich in the final of the competition, and he will now miss the first two matches of his team's European campaign.
The first will be the Super Cup contest with Europa League winners Atletico Madrid, with the second coming in the first group stage contest.
