ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) Fresh off their trip to the White House, the Denver Broncos began their mandatory minicamp Tuesday minus star cornerback Aqib Talib, who suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg over the weekend.

Talib was hospitalized for two days in Dallas, where police are investigating the shooting.

Another notable absence is Super Bowl MVP Von Miller, who hasn't signed his $14.129 million franchise tag while his agent, Joby Branion, pursues a contract that would make Miller the league's highest-paid defensive player.

Miller has skipped the Broncos' offseason program but said after the Rose Garden ceremony Monday that the sides have ''made real progress over the last couple of days. I'm very optimistic.''

They have until July 15 to get a deal done.
