Stuttgart, Germany – Stuttgart striker Cacau suffered a torn ACL in training Wednesday and will be sidelined at least three months the club said Thursday.
Stuttgart plans to fit the 31-year-old Cacau with a "specially designed brace" so he can return in three months. If surgery is necessary, it would likely end his season.
"That is of course bitter for us and I feel really sorry for him," Stuttgart director of sport Fredi Bobic said. "We will naturally support him in every possible way and hope that surgery won't be necessary as he would then be out for an even longer period."
Cacau, who has played 23 times for Germany, has one goal in five Bundesliga matches this season.
