The Pittsburgh Steelers activated running back Rashard Mendenhall and nose tackle Casey Hampton off the physically unable to perform list Friday.

Mendenhall, who was recovering from a knee injury, appeared in 15 games for the Steelers last season, carrying the ball 228 times for 928 yards and nine touchdowns.

The 23rd overall selection by Pittsburgh in the 2008 draft, Mendenhall has 3,367 yards and 29 scores on 813 carries through 51 career games.

Hampton, who is entering his 12th season with Pittsburgh, collected 31 tackles through 13 games last season. He was also recovering from a knee injury.

The 34-year-old has amassed 347 tackles and nine sacks over 157 career games.
