(SportsNetwork.com) - The Dallas Stars will try to extend their current stretch of excellent play on Wednesday night as they battle the Arizona Coyotes for the final time this season.
The Stars earned a second straight win on Monday night, beating New York 3-2 to snap the Rangers' eight-game winning streak. Antoine Roussel scored the go- ahead goal in the second period and Kari Lehtonen made 10 of his 28 saves in the third period.
John Klingberg and Ales Hemsky also lit the lamp for the Stars, who have won six of seven to pull within six points of a wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Stars head coach Lindy Ruff thinks his club is playing its best hockey of the season right now.
"We're getting a little bit more consistent every game. We're playing better away from the puck, which if we're going to push our way back in, we have to do," noted Ruff. "We still need little bit more from our special teams, but (I'm) probably getting a little big picky. We've found ways to win some games and then we've flat-out deserved to win some games."
Dallas is aiming to sweep its three-game season series with Arizona and has taken five straight as the host against the Coyotes.
Lehtonen is 11-3-4 in his career versus Arizona with a 2.10 goals against average and .931 save percentage.
The Coyotes are on their own solid run as of late, having matched a season high with three straight victories after beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Monday. Antoine Vermette scored twice in the win.
Shane Doan and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also lit the lamp for the Coyotes, who are looking to win four in a row for the first time since a five-game run from Oct. 26-Nov. 5 of last year.
"I think it was a really competitive game," Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett said. "We capitalized on some opportunities and defended pretty well."
Devan Dubnyk made 30 saves and has been in net for all three wins, giving up just four goals. He is 2-5-1 in his career versus the Stars with a 3.08 GAA and an .897 save percentage.
Arizona begins a six-game homestand on Saturday.
