San Antonio, TX – Manu Ginobili scored 24 points, grabbed 82, in the season opener for both teams.
Tony Parker finished with 15 points, seven assists and four steals for the Spurs, who were upset by the eighth-seeded Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs last season.
But the 16-0 run led San Antonio to the victory Monday. The Spurs won despite limited action for Tim Duncan, who was hampered by foul trouble in the first half and logged just 21 minutes. He finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Rudy Gay had 19 points and 10 rebounds in his first game back for Memphis. He missed the final 28 games of last season and the Grizzlies' entire playoff run with a shoulder injury. While they beat the Spurs without him, they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a tightly contested seven-game Western Conference semifinals.
