Baton Rouge, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Southern University and football coach Dawson Odums agreed to a contract extension Thursday that would keep Odums at the head of the football program until 2017, Southern University Athletic Director William Broussard announced.

Odums' contract extension is subject to approval of the SU Board of Supervisors, which meets in January. The contract extension calls for a base salary of $175,000, which is an upgrade from his $140,000 base salary this past season. Odums earned $52,500 in incentives after leading the Jaguars to a win in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game Dec. 7.

Odums had one year remaining on his contract before the revised agreement was made.

Odums took over as the interim head coach of Southern when Stump Mitchell was reassigned in 2012 after an 0-2 start. The Jaguars finished the 2012 season 4-5, and the 2013 season 9-4 with a double-overtime victory over Jackson State in the SWAC Championship Game at Housotn's Reliant Stadium.
