Southampton, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, the south coast club confirmed on Thursday.
Schneiderlin, 25, was injured in the Saints' 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Saturday and the injury comes at a poor time for Ronald Koeman's team as they are in the thick of the battle for European football next season.
The French international has been a key cog in the Saints midfield this season, making 30 appearances and scoring five goals.
"It's not good, he will be out for the rest of the season," Koeman said. "It's ligament on his left knee and he is out for three, four, five weeks. You like to have everyone available and Morgan is a key player for the team, an important one in the midfielder position. Injuries are part of football and we have Victor Wanyama back from his suspension."
He will miss fixtures against Sunderland, Leicester City, Aston Villa and Manchester City.
