SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five South Carolina Upstate players scored in double figures as the Spartans rolled to a 90-36 victory over Hiwassee Monday night in a nonconference showdown.
South Carolina Upstate (1-1) jumped to an 18-0 lead, sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers by Torrey Craig. Adrian Rodgers capped the run with another 3 before Hiwassee finally scored with 13:37 left in the first half on Jeff Golden's layup.
Craig led all scorers with 16 points, while Rodgers and Bruce Haynes finished with 15, Ty Greene had 11 and Ricardo Glenn had 10.
Craig netted 14 of his points in the first half, when he was 5-of-7 shooting and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
The Spartans shot 55.7 percent from the field (34 of 61), going over 50 percent for the second straight game.
Rico Stanly led Hiwassee (1-5) with eight points.
