San Sebastian, Spain – Imanol Agirretxe and Antoine Griezmann minute stretch of the second half as Real Sociedad rallied for 2 draw against Barcelona on Saturday at Estadio Anoeta.
Sociedad handed Barca its lone road loss last season in La Liga, but Xavi and Cesc Fabregas scored in a two-minute span inside 11 minutes as the defending Spanish and European champions got off to a quick start.
But Agirretxe's third goal of the season pulled Sociedad within a goal in the 59th minute, and Griezmann followed seconds later to even the match and secure a deserved point for his side.
Fabregas set up the opener when he found Alexis Sanchez with a through ball, and Sanchez then squared a pass for Xavi to drive in from close range in the 10th minute.
Xavi set up the next goal when he picked out Fabregas, who squared a pass for Pedro. Although Pedro's shot was blocked, Fabregas slotted in the rebound for a second quick goal.
Sociedad responded through Agirretxe, who headed in a cross from Xabi Prieto. And seconds later, the game was level. Agirretxe took advantage of an error by David Villa to break in on Victor Valdes, and his shot was pushed off the bar by the hand of Barca defender Sergio Busquets.
Griezmann headed into an empty net to finish the play, and the goal stood even though Busquets clearly played the ball with his hand and should have been red carded.
Lionel Messi did not start for Barca but he came on in the second half and was carded in the closing seconds for diving in the area, as Sociedad held on for the draw.
Real Madrid 4, Getafe 2
Madrid, Spain - Karim Benzema bagged a brace and Cristiano Ronaldo scored his fourth goal of the young season, as Real Madrid defeated Getafe 4-2 in La Liga on Saturday at the Bernabeu.
Benzema opened the scoring on 14 minutes, but Miku scored the first of his two goals in the 39th to send the game to half tied. Ronaldo added a controversial penalty on the hour mark and Benzema added his second in the 69th as Real took control, but Getafe did not go quiet.
Miku completed his double in the 73rd, leaving the game in doubt until Gonzalo Higuain scored in the 88th after a nice backheel from Kaka to seal Real's win.
Real sits atop the standings with two wins from two matches.
Villarreal 2, Sevilla 2
Villarreal, Spain - Alexis scored four minutes from time at El Madrigal as Sevilla earned a 2-2 draw against 10-man Villarreal on Saturday in La Liga.
Villarreal went down a man inside the half-hour mark when goalie Diego Lopez was sent off, and although Cesar saved the ensuing penalty from Alvaro Negredo the rebound fell to the Spain international and he fired home.
Giuseppe Rossi tied the match from the spot in the 35th, and Marco Ruben put Villarreal in front in the 72nd. But Alexis headed home a free kick in the 86th as Villarreal settled for a point after a strong short-handed outing.
Valencia 1, Atletico Madrid 0
Valencia, Spain - Roberto Soldado scored his fourth goal of the season through two matches, as Valencia edged Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Mestalla on Saturday in Spain's La Liga.
Valencia moved even on points with Real Madrid as the only clubs with two wins through the first two weeks after Saturday's games at the top of the table.
Soldado's goal total is also tied for the league lead, even with Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.
Atletico is goalless after two matches, as it tied its opener against Osasuna, 0-0.
