Mike Smith scored a career-high 28 points and Micah Williams 23 as East Tennessee State defeated Mercer 82-75 Monday night.

Williams scored back-to-back 3-pointers to cap a 16-4 second-half run that gave the Buccaneers (16-8, 11-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) a 75-63 lead with 3:26 remaining.

Smith scored 18 points in the first half, which ended with ETSU ahead 38-34. The Buccaneers, who won for the 12th time in 13 games, shot 55.6 percent (15 of 27) and had a 14-2 edge in points inside the paint.

Justin Cecil scored a career-high 23 points for the Bears (8-15, 5-7), including 5 of 8 from 3-point range. Both teams were sharp from beyond the arc, with Mercer making 57.1 percent (12 of 21) and ETSU 56.3 percent (9 of 16).

Mercer, which played without injured leading scorer Jeff Smith, lost its third-leading scorer, Brandon Moore, with a knee injury 4 minutes into the game.
