Kansas City, KS – Sporting Kansas City will hope to snap a two-game losing streak on Saturday when the club welcomes the New England Revolution to Sporting Park on Saturday.
After losing out to the Montreal Impact at the Stade Saputo through a late goal from Blake Smith, Sporting suffered a disappointing 3-2 loss at home to Red Bull New York last weekend.
"They were both six point games in conference standings and in Supporters' Shield as well. Tough to drop those points, especially this one at home hurts," Sporting midfielder Benny Feilhaber said after the loss to New York. "We played good enough to win but just had a few lapses of concentration so we just have to try and get that out of our game. One good thing in MLS is that you have plenty of games and when we get to the playoffs hopefully we have all of that stuff corrected because that's when it really matters."
The three goals conceded by Sporting matches the club's season-high, but head coach Peter Vermes took issue with the manner in which they were conceded.
"We gave up three goals that were horrendous goals. All of them," Vermes said. "All three of them were bad on our part. With me, that is unacceptable. Those goals were horrendous."
New England is also coming off of a home defeat as the club saw its two-game winning run halted by a loss to Toronto FC on Saturday.
Matias Laba produced the lone goal of the match just two minutes into the affair. It left the Revs to play catch-up for the remainder of the contest, something defender Chris Tierney said the team cannot continue to do.
"We concede early again tonight and it's just tough to chase games in this league," Tierney said after the match. "We need to be smarter to start the game, turn them around instead of try to play 50-50 ball in our own half. That's something we'll work on, being smarter and it's just between the ears you know. We're playing well, the first half we played well but just that one crucial mistake cost us."
The result was New England's second straight defeat on home soil, but it will attempt to keep a two-game road winning streak alive with maximum points at Sporting Park.
