VIENNA (AP) Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Taras Stepanenko has been released from hospital and was traveling back to Ukraine with his team on Thursday, a day after hurting his head in a Champions League playoff game at Rapid Vienna.

Shakhtar said Stepanenko escaped serious injury but didn't reveal whether the player would be available for the return match in Lviv on Tuesday.

Stepanenko and Rapid's Srdan Grahovac slammed their heads together in a duel for the ball just before halftime. The Ukrainian was carried off the field on a stretcher while Grahovac continued the match wearing bandage.

Shakhtar beat Rapid 1-0 on a first-half goal by Marlos to close in on the Champions League group stage for a sixth straight season.
