A new flyweight title contender could be crowned when Sergio Pettis meets Brandon Moreno in the main event at UFC Fight Night in Mexico City on August 5.
UFC officials announced the new matchup on Sunday.
Pettis (15-2) was originally scheduled to return at UFC 211 but his opponent Henry Cejudo suffered a hand injury during fight week that forced the cancellation of their matchup.
Now Pettis, who is riding a three fight win streak, will travel to Mexico instead to face a local favorite and one of the fastest rising stars on the UFC roster.
Moreno (14-3) has enjoyed quite the Cinderella story since joining the UFC by way of "The Ultimate Fighter" season 24 where he was vying for a flyweight championship in a 16-man tournament.
Unfortunately, Moreno didn't make it out of the first round but then got an opportunity to fight in the UFC on short notice where he stunned Louis Smolka with a first round guillotine choke submission. Since then, Moreno has won two more fights including a spectacular submission win over Dustin Ortiz in April.
Now Moreno will return home to Mexico to headline his first UFC card as he takes on a top 10 flyweight challenger in Pettis with the winner likely sitting near a shot at champion Demetrious Johnson.
