Moscow, Russia (SportsNetwork.com) - Second seed and reigning champion Andreas Seppi reached the quarterfinals, while third-seeded Janko Tipsarevic was ousted from the Kremlin Cup tennis event.

The Italian Seppi subdued fellow countryman Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-2, while Russian wild card Karen Khachanov stunned the former top-10 Serb and 2009 and 2011 Moscow runner-up Tipsarevic 6-4, 6-4 on the indoor hardcourts at Olympic Stadium.

Seppi beat Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci in last year's Moscow finale.

Also in the second round, Kazakhstani qualifier Andrey Golubev upended sixth- seeded Argentine Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4 and France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin snuck past Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 7-5, 7-5 on Day 3. Roger-Vasselin will face Seppi in Friday's quarterfinals.

The first round concluded Wednesday, as fifth-seeded Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan held off Russian Andrey Kuznetsov 6-0, 2-6, 6-1, Russian wild card Teymuraz Gabashvili overcame eighth-seeded Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, and 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic fired 15 aces in humbling American Denis Kudla 6-2, 6-3.

On Thursday, top-seeded French star Richard Gasquet will take on Russian Evgeny Donskoy.

The 2013 Moscow titlist will collect $134,800.
