Ryan Truex will make his return to the NASCAR XFINITY Series for three races this season through a partnership between Richard Petty Motorsports and Biagi DenBeste Racing.

Truex will compete at Richmond International Raceway next weekend in a No. 98 Ford Mustang in what will mark his first XFINITY event since 2012. The Mayetta, New Jersey native and younger brother of Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr. will also drive at Kentucky Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway later this year. Truex has a combined 65 starts in NASCAR's three major series.

In the XFINITY Series, Truex has made 35 starts highlighted by one pole, two top fives and nine top-10 finishes. He owns a best finish of second, which came at Dover in 2012. Truex has four XFINITY starts at Richmond, claiming one top-five and two top-10 finishes.

Truex, 23, competed in 23 of 36 Sprint Cup races last season but hasn't made a start in any of NASCAR's three major series in 2015.

"I'm very grateful to Biagi DenBeste Racing and Richard Petty Motorsports for the opportunity to get back behind the wheel in the NASCAR XFINITY Series," Truex said in a team release. "I've had some time away from racing, and it's given me a chance to refocus on my career. I feel more driven than ever to perform well and prove that I can race with the best in the sport. I'd like to thank the fans as well. They've been really supportive of me on social media, asking when I'll be back racing again. I'm looking forward to putting on a great show for them."

This is not the first partnership between Richard Petty Motorsports and Biagi DenBeste Racing. The two teams paired for 11 races earlier this season with drivers Aric Almirola and Sam Hornish Jr. sharing seat time. In those 11 races, the No. 98 team recorded three top 10s and eight top-15 finishes.

"We're excited to join RPM in giving Ryan this opportunity to get back to racing in the XFINITY Series," said Fred Biagi, co-owner of Biagi-DenBeste Racing. "We've had fast cars this season and good results with both Aric and Sam, so hopefully we can do the same with Ryan behind the wheel at Richmond."
