Kansas City, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - The Kansas City Royals and outfielder Justin Maxwell have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Terms of the deal, which was announced Tuesday, were not disclosed.
Maxwell, 30, was acquired from Houston on July 31 for minor-league pitcher Kyle Smith.
He batted .268 with five home runs and 17 RBI in 35 games for the Royals and hit a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning to beat Texas in Kansas City's home finale.
Maxwell's deal leaves the Royals with two unsigned arbitration-eligible players: right-handed pitchers Aaron Crow and Greg Holland.
