Rockies rout Pirates

Denver, CO – Wilin Rosario hit a two-run home run and drove in four as the Colorado Rockies dominated the Pittsburgh Pirates, 10-1, to open a three-game series.

Michael Cuddyer went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Nolan Arenado was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockies, who had lost five straight coming into the contest.

Jorge De La Rosa (11-6) benefited from the offensive output, and pitched a strong game as he gave up just a run on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work.

Francisco Liriano (12-5) had his worst start of the season as he gave up all 10 runs on 12 hits in just 2 1/3 innings of work. He came into the game having given up a total of 10 runs in his previous eight starts.

Colorado took control of the game in the first inning as DJ LeMahieu singled with one out and Troy Tulowitzki followed with a walk. Cuddyer then singled home LeMahieu and Rosario followed with a two-run double. Todd Helton then singled to score Rosario for a 4-0 lead.

Pittsburgh got a run back in the second on Jordy Mercer's sacrifice fly, but the Rockies added five more in the home half.

Cuddyer singled in the first run of the inning, and Rosario followed with a two-run homer to left. Helton then singled and scored on an Arenado double, and Charlie Culberson hit an RBI single for a 9-1 advantage.

Cuddyer drove in another run in his third straight at-bat as his grounder scored Dexter Fowler for a 10-1 advantage.

Pittsburgh managed to get just one runner to third after the second inning.

Game Notes

Liriano's earned run average went from 2.02 to 2.67 ... Pittsburgh took two of three from Colorado last weekend ... Liriano fell to 1-2 in three games against the Rockies ... De La Rosa improved to 4-3 in 13 games against the Pirates ... Josh Harrison got the final out of the eighth inning for the Pirates. The third baseman is the first position player to have pitched for the Pirates since 2004.
