St. Louis, MO – The Colorado Rockies placed closer Huston day disabled list Friday with a right triceps strain, and activated first baseman Jason Giambi.
Street has not pitched since August 8, sitting out the last few games while dealing with the injury.
He has been the Rockies' primary closer all season, converting 29-of-32 save opportunities while posting a 4.06 earned run average in 53 appearances. With Street out, the club will have to find another option for the ninth inning.
The Rockies used Rafael Betancourt for the save Tuesday against Cincinnati, but are at a disadvantage with Matt Lindstrom also out of action.
Lindstrom, who saved 23 games with Houston last season, landed on the DL Wednesday with a nerve injury and isn't due back until late in the month, at the earliest.
While Street was placed on the DL, Giambi returned after a strained left quadriceps sidelined him in late July. In 48 games this season -- mostly coming off the bench -- Giambi has hit .260 with a .357 on-base percentage, 10 home runs and 24 RBI.
