Rockies' Nelson takes NL weekly honors

Colorado Rockies third baseman Chris Nelson was named National League player of the week for the period ending Sept. 16.

Nelson batted a major league-best .560 with five RBI and six runs scored last week while also tallying at least one hit in all six games. Nelson posted five multi-hit performances and extended his hitting streak to a career-high eight games during that period.

Other players considered for the award were Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins, Atlanta Braves pitcher Mike Minor and San Diego infielder Logan Forsythe.
