The former top-10 star Robredo whipped Serb Dusan Lajovic 6-2, 6-1 on the red clay at Jockey Club Brasileiro.

Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Spaniard Pablo Andujar received a walkover into the quarters when Slovak Martin Klizan pulled out of their scheduled second-round match on Day 3.
