Chicago, IL – The Chicago Cubs have reportedly traded catcher Geovany Soto to the Texas Rangers.
The move, reported by several media sources, wasn't confirmed by either of the clubs, but deals would likely be completed prior to Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET non- waiver trade deadline.
Johnson and Soto were both pulled early from Monday's game at Wrigley Field, when the Cubs beat the Pirates, 14-4.
Soto is hitting just .199 with six homers and 14 RBI in 52 games this season. The 29-year-old, an 11th-round draft pick by the Cubs in 2001, broke into the majors with Chicago in 2005. His best season offensively came in 2008 when he hit .285 with 23 homers and 86 RBI in 141 contests.
Mike Napoli and Yorvit Torrealba have split time behind the plate this season for the Rangers. Reports indicate that the Rangers will designate Torrealba for assignment.
According to several media sources, the Cubs will get back right-handed pitcher Jacob Brigham from the Rangers. The 24-year-old has compiled a 5-5 record with a 4.28 ERA in 21 starts for Double-A Frisco this year.
