The Saints could be planning to offer a long-term contract to running back Pierre Thomas as early as Wednesday, according to a report by FOX 8 Sports on Monday.

Thomas was tendered at a second-round level after the season with a one-year, $1.68 million deal. He has yet to sign that offer since he is more interested in a long-term agreement with the team.

Thomas was an undrafted free agent from Illinois who caught on with the Saints in 2007. He rushed for six touchdowns and a career-best 793 yards during last season. He also caught two touchdown passes and added 302 receiving yards, which was the first time in three seasons he topped 1,000 total yards from the line of scrimmage.
