San Antonio is angling for an NFL team of its own. It might have to make due with one passing through town for the time being.

Mayor Ivy Taylor announced her city is willing to provide a temporary home for a team as it awaits more permanent housing in Los Angeles, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

"I think it would give NFL fans here the experience of having a team here locally and it would further highlight the assets of San Antonio to the NFL," Should there be any expansion or other moves, it lets the NFL know San Antonio is a viable option."

It could be the best available option for owner Mark Davis. Even if Los Angeles-area options like the L.A. Coliseum decline, he'd be able to immediately leave Oakland behind without treading water.

San Antonio is no stranger to professional football. The city housed the New Orelans Saints for three "home" games in 2005 when they were uprooted after Hurricane Katrina. It also housed a USFL team -- the Gunslingers -- from 1984-85.
