Via a report from Football Scoop, Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier is a serious candidate for the vacant Southern Miss job. In fact, Nussmeier interviewed for the position on Wednesday.

A West Coast native, Nussmeier has gradually made his way East throughout his coaching career. Prior to his current stint with Florida, he spent time at both Michigan and Alabama.

The timing of this potential departure wouldn't be ideal. National Signing Day is less than a week away. Should Nussmeier leave, it could ultimately impact recruiting in a negative sense. Additionally, Florida could be looking at hiring its fifth offensive coordinator in the past six years.

This past season, the Gators ranked No. 111 nationally in total offense.
