Ashburn, VA – Rex Grossman will reportedly be the Washington Redskins' starting quarterback in Week 1 against the New York Giants, according to multiple reports.
Grossman and John Beck had been battling for the starting job throughout the preseason.
Head coach Mike Shanahan reportedly informed the quarterbacks of his decision over the weekend.
Grossman first signed with Washington last season to back up Donovan McNabb, then started the final three games of the season. The Redskins were 1-2 with Grossman at the helm. In four games overall last year, he completed 74-of-133 passes for 884 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions.
He then signed a one-year contract this past offseason to stay with Washington.
The former Chicago Bears quarterback has played a full 16 games only once in his eight-year career -- in 2006 when he led the Bears to the Super Bowl.
Shanahan will address reporters after the team's practice at 2:45 p.m.
