The Los Angeles Angels' ongoing hunt for a new GM appears to be nearing its end.
On Sunday, word broke that the Halos have eliminated internal candidates from the running and are closing in on a decision, one that could indicate New York Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler is now the most likely choice.
Jeff Fletcher of the O.C. Register reported that the team is expected to officially conclude the search shortly after the season ends (which could happen within the next couple of days).
The Angels have had a number of interviews of both internal and external candidates over the past few weeks, with internal options including Scott Servais and Matt Klentak, in addition to outsiders such as Los Angeles Dodgers vice president Josh Byrnes and others.
Departed GM Jerry Dipoto was recently hired by the Seattle Mariners to replace the fired Jack Zduriencik, keeping him in the AL West for the foreseeable future.
The Angels seem to have been interested in wrapping up their search for quite some time, and these new updates indicate they are doing just that.
