The Cincinnati Reds signed president of year contract extension on Friday.

Jocketty's original contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

"Since he's been here, Walt has vastly improved our baseball operations within the organization." Reds' president/CEO Bob Castellini said. "You can't develop a winning tradition without stability. Walt and his staff are doing good things here. We want to keep that momentum going."

Jocketty joined the organization in January of 2008 as a special assistant to Castellini and was named to his current position three months later. Last season, the Reds finished with a 91-71 record and took the National League Central division crown by five games over the St. Louis Cardinals.

It was the team's first postseason berth since 1995.

Following the 2010 campaign, Jocketty was named Major League Baseball's Executive of the Year. He also won the award in 2000 and 2004.
