Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox placed infielder Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list Saturday due to a fractured right index finger.

The Boston third baseman sustained the injury while trying to field a line drive in the first inning of Friday's 1-0 loss to the Detroit Tigers.

Middlebrooks had been sidelined from April 5-24 by a right calf strain. The 25-year-old has collected just 14 hits in 71 at-bats (.197) over 21 appearances this season.

To fill the roster spot, the Red Sox recalled infielder Brock Holt from Triple-A Pawtucket after last night's contest.

This is the third shot in the majors this season for Holt, who hit .348 with four RBI over seven games in two previous call-ups.
