Toronto, ON – The Boston Red Sox recalled catcher Ryan A Pawtucket, and selected infielder/outfielder Nate Spears from Pawtucket Monday.
To make room for Spears on the 40-man roster, Boston designated infielder Drew Sutton for assignment.
Lavarnway will be making his second stint with the Red Sox this season and is hitting .304 with a .407 on-base percentage and three RBI in seven games.
Weiland has made two starts for Boston this season and has an 0-1 record and a 8.10 ERA.
Spears will be making his major league debut when he appears in a game. The 26-year-old has a .248 batting average with 19 doubles, eight home runs and 45 RBI in 96 games for the minor league club.
