Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox have signed Ryan Sweeney to a year, non-guaranteed contract, avoiding arbitration with the outfielder.
Sweeney, acquired by Boston in its trade with Oakland during the offseason, is a career .283 hitter and has played for the White Sox (2006-07) and Athletics (2008-11).
Last season, Sweeney played in 108 games for the A's and had three triples, one home run and 25 RBI.
