St. Petersburg, FL – Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez was a late scratch for his team's game Friday against Tampa Bay.
Gonzalez left Sunday's game against the New York Yankees in the third inning because of an illness.
Mauro Gomez will replace Gonzalez in the lineup, batting fourth and playing first base.
This season, Gonzalez is hitting .283 with six home runs and 45 RBI.
